Hacienda Papá Ramón

Azua, Dominican Republic

Where nature rules.

The birds

From the aviary to the yard, feathers of every shape.

Budgies, lovebirds, rosellas and Java sparrows in the aviary; roosters, silver pheasants, geese, ducks and even ostriches in the yard.

See the birds

A green and yellow budgie on a branch

Two flamingos facing each other by a pale wall
Lovebirds flying over the aviary’s rock waterfall

Three cockatiels side by side on a branch

The horses

Our national breed, on full display.

The paso horse is the pride of the Dominican countryside: a smooth, sure gait handed down from one generation to the next. On the farm we raise them, ride them and care for them as what they are, the heart of the hacienda.

The animals

Goats, sheep, bees, cattle, and the dogs who watch over it all.

The farm

We love animals, and horses most of all.

Hacienda Papá Ramón is Ramón Melo's farm in Azua, in the south of the Dominican Republic, looking out over the valley and the mountains. Horses, goats, sheep, birds of every colour, bees and cattle live here, each at their own pace. Walk it with us, from morning to nightfall.
